Cheryl Hernandez
Cheryl Hernandez’s work in fused glass is an exploration of light, movement, and texture. Drawn to the medium’s unique balance of strength and fluidity, she layers and fuses glass in the kiln to capture the rhythms of water, the play of sunlight, and the intricate patterns of the natural world.
Before becoming a full-time artist, Cheryl served her community for over twenty years as a 911 dispatcher and Firefighter Paramedic in Dade County. That experience instilled in her a deep appreciation for resilience and transformation—qualities that continue to shape her creative process. Her artistic journey began in unexpected places: designing wedding cakes, painting in watercolor, and eventually discovering glass as the medium that best reflects her vision.
For the past 17 years, Cheryl has studied kiln-formed glass with internationally recognized masters including Brad Walker, Amanda Simmons, Tim Carey, Paul Messink, and Narcissus Quagliata. Their mentorship has expanded her understanding of how glass can embody energy, motion, and light.
Now living on Florida’s Space Coast, Cheryl is inspired daily by the ocean’s shifting hues and the coastal landscape that surrounds her. Her work is a dialogue with that environment—an attempt to translate its ever-changing beauty into luminous works of glass.
Her art is held in private collections across the United States, and with each new piece she continues to explore how glass can hold both stillness and movement, fragility and strength, reflection and transparency.
