Watercolor Portraiture (6-Weeks) Wednesdays, January 14 – February 25, 2026 2PM-4PM

$180.00

Are you intimidated at the thought of painting a portrait? If you can paint anything as difficult as a flower, you can paint a portrait. Shape and value are what artists paint, regardless of the subject.

Are you worried about creating a likeness? HCA artist Linda Neal will show you how to use your reference photo by sizing it, then tracing it onto watercolor paper with graphite transfer paper.

Next, you’ll learn the colors needed to paint flesh tones, hair and eyes. Linda provides a reference photo for all students, but you should bring a reference photo of your own (approximately 7” X 10”) so you can work on one portrait while the other dries.

The final step: finding errors that change the likeness, then learning how to correct them. Come and enjoy the learning experience with other artists.

Supply List:

  • 300# 9“ X 12” Arches Cold Press Watercolor Paper

  • Winsor Newton New Gamboge & Scarlet Lake, plus your regular palette of artist grade watercolors

  • #10 round brush

  • a fine brush to paint detail

  • Graphite transfer paper

  • Proportional divider

  • Paper towels and water receptacles
